Product description
A nutritional supplement to help promote healthy skin and a glossy coat, particularly in equines prone to increased sensitivity from midge/insect bites and pollen intolerance. PRODUCT INFO It all started in 1956. A herd of Icelandic horses were bought to the UK. They had previously been grazed on moorland in Iceland. They were introduced to lowland pasture once in the UK. Several developed sweet-itch and sore flaky skin which they hadn’t shown any sign of previously. The same ponies repeatedly suffered each year especially between spring and autumn. In 1969, by chance they were given different salt blocks in the field instead of their usual horse minsal and none showed any sign of sweet-itch that spring and summer. Upon investigation, it was found that the blocks were actually cattle minsal. The ingredients were similar to the normal horse minsal but the formulae different, the percentages of magnesium and cobalt were doubled, the calcium increased by 30% and the phosphorus and iron properties were halved. The makers kindly sent the formulae and Reynolds and Lewis Animal Heath Ltd supplied numerous horse and pony owners with cattle minsal for the next 25 years. While the company has since evolved and changed ownership, EquiSkin today still uses the exact same ingredients and formula since it all began in 1969. Shelley Brooks first began using Equiskin in the early 1990’s when a very well bred dressage horse came to the yard with a tub of the minsal. We were told he’d had terrible sweet-itch but never showed signs when fed the minsal. We continued feeding it and then introduced it to various horses over the years who suffered from similar conditions. Since that time we have also been using it for horses with mallanders, dermatitis, greasy shin; in fact any skin complaint and the results have been remarkable.
